Course Summary

      The central aim of this course is to understand technology markets and how technology and innovation shape strategic decisions. It is designed to meet the needs of future managers, entrepreneurs, consultants and investors who must analyse and develop business strategies in technology-based industries. Hence, the focus of this course is on the strategic issues around how a firm should manage its technology. Strategic issues include understanding the technological and competitive landscape, incentives to innovate, alternative commercialization paths for a new technology, ways to compete in today’s marketplace, resource allocation and R&D investment decisions, and managing factors that hinder or promote the adoption and diffusion of a new technology.

- How an incumbent firm can respond to "disruptive" innovations.
